We have reached a stage of growth where access to larger foundation and institutional funding is increasingly important to the sustainability of our mission. A significant barrier is that prospective funders require independently audited financial statements, and the cost of obtaining an audit has been difficult for us to absorb. We maintain financial records and systems documenting organizational activity, resident obligations, payments, and expenses, and leadership is prepared to provide the records and cooperation necessary for an engagement.
The volunteer will deliver an independent audit of Blue Waters Recovery Foundation's financial statements, completed in accordance with applicable professional standards, including the appropriate auditor's report and audited financial statements suitable for presentation to foundations and other institutional funders. We are looking for a volunteer with nonprofit accounting and audit (CPA) expertise to perform the engagement and provide written recommendations, where relevant, on financial controls, reporting practices, or documentation to strengthen our financial infrastructure.

Blue Waters Recovery Foundation exists to give people in early recovery something many desperately need: a safe place to land, a structured environment in which to rebuild, and a community that believes lasting change is possible. We provide clean and sober housing for individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, with a program designed to restore stability, accountability, healthy routines, life skills, and a strong foundation in a 12-step program of their choice. One of the things that makes Blue Waters especially unique is the connection between recovery and rescue. Through Blue Waters Dog Rescue, rescue dogs live alongside residents while waiting for permanent adoptive homes. Many of these animals arrive needing safety, consistency, patience, and care—the same things people often need when rebuilding their lives in recovery. Residents have opportunities to help care for the dogs, creating companionship, responsibility, routine, and a renewed sense of purpose. In many ways, both the residents and the dogs are being given another chance. Blue Waters believes recovery is about more than simply remaining sober. It is about rebuilding a life—learning to show up, becoming dependable again, developing confidence, reconnecting with purpose, and moving toward independence. Through structure, peer support, accountability, community, and the unique presence of rescue animals, Blue Waters strives to help residents move through the challenges of early sobriety and build a foundation for long-term recovery and productive, fulfilling lives.
