We're looking for a volunteer with experience in cash basis and accrual bookkeeping system who can guide us through the transition from cash to accrual. Our NPO has grown dramatically in the past few years to an annual budget of $1.6M and we need a more accurate accounting of our finances that we can report out to our funders.

This is a short term project, 1-3 meetings online with Rediscover's Finance Team to review our current bookkeeping system and coach us on what changes we'll need to make to transition to accrual accounting, ideally to start with FY2026 (Jan 1).
Through working on this project, you'll help advance Rediscover's mission to provide sustainable maker education opportunities to all 1.2 million youth in LA County. Our ambition is orders of magnitude larger than our current impact. To get there we need to grow, including in our financial sophistication to manage larger budgets and attract funding at scale.
We have effective bookkeeping, budgeting and accounting systems and experienced staff and a contract bookkeeper that keeps things in good order. Our Finance Team includes the Executive Director and Operations Director, who will be directly engaged with this project.

Organization Mission

Rediscover’s mission is to provide makers with the tools, resources, and confidence to engage in creative reuse and self-expression. We educate youth of all levels of expertise in transforming discarded materials into art, functional objects, and tools for learning. We support one another as hands-on creators, problem-solvers, community stakeholders, and stewards of the Earth. Based in Los Angeles, Rediscover serves 15,000+ youth ages 5-15 annually with hands-on STEAM/maker education resources. Our vocational training program for youth ages 16-25 connects youth's love of creating art, inventions, and maker projects to work-ready skills. Our makerspaces are stocked with creative reuse materials donated by local households and businesses, diverting thousands of pounds of material from the waste stream each year.
