Fostering is one of the best ways I know to teach someone how to really read a dog: what their body is saying, what they need, what those first scared weeks actually look like. Every foster home means one more dog who heals in a real home, and one more person who walks away understanding dogs in a way they never did before. Thatâs both ends of the leash. Right now our foster program lives mostly in my head, and I need it out of there and into something real that can grow. I also refuse to let the people opening their homes pay out of their own pockets to do it. If you love building programs that take care of people, this oneâs for you.
Build our Foster Base program from the ground up. That means recruitment materials, an application and screening process, and a foster handbook that teaches the hard days along with the good ones. Youâd create a process for getting fosters their supplies, food, and medical costs covered, plus a check-in schedule and a plan for bringing fosters out to our five acres for support, training, and to meet each other. When the project wraps, our Dog Care & Foster Lead should be able to pick it up and run it without calling you.

At Legacy Paws, our mission is to create a community of kindness through education, prevention, and rescue. We believe the best way to change the lives of dogs is not only to rescue them when they are in crisis, but to help prevent that crisis whenever possible. We educate people about how dogs think, communicate, learn, and experience the world, while providing practical support and resources to help people and dogs succeed together. When rescue is needed, we step in for the dogs who have nowhere else to turnâespecially those who are overlooked because of age, medical needs, trauma, or circumstances beyond their control. Everything we do comes back to one belief: Healing and learning happens on both ends of the leash. Rescue isnât where we end. Itâs where we begin.
