Portland Literacy Council trains volunteer tutors who serve adult learners in literacy, English language, and GED programs across the Portland metro area. Because PLC works through a network of trained volunteers rather than direct classroom instruction, our impact can be difficult for donors, grant reviewers, and new partners to visualize. We currently rely mainly on statistics and written descriptions to convey our work, which does not fully capture the personal transformation our tutors and learners experience. We need a compelling visual story that shows, rather than tells, why tutor training matters. We have not previously had the in house video production skills or capacity to produce a professional piece, so this need has gone unaddressed. Without a strong video asset, we are missing an important tool for donor cultivation, grant applications, and public facing communications.
By the end of this engagement, we want a two minute video that tells the story of PLC's work through the voices of our tutors, learners, and staff. The consultant will guide the project from initial discovery through final export, including aligning on tone and story arc, coordinating and filming interviews and b roll at locations we arrange, and completing one or more rounds of editing based on our feedback. The final deliverable will be a polished 1-2 minute video file formatted for use on our website and social media channels, along with any raw footage and supporting assets. Success looks like a video that helps new audiences understand who we serve and why our tutor training model creates lasting impact, and that we can confidently use across our fundraising and outreach efforts. It will include doing some interviews in the Portland area.
